AiR -2001

I wrote the original script but it got a lot better when the writer Elaine Paton worked her magic on it. I was very impressed with her wordsmithing, it was hard to bring such a story in to six short minutes and that is with a lot of visual action too.
I used many experimental material techniques, the only digital effects are the opening text and something in Bob's beer glass.

"Home Movies" SBSi 2002

Home Movies was a collection of 12 commissioned pieces from various Australian animators. They were to be based on true stories and Air is so, but not all from my life. For instance the near-drowning scene with the surfing catamaran is from a newspaper article I read in my teens, I think it happened at South Head in Sydney.

"AiR" is a story of mateship. Nick and Bob have been through all sorts of stuff over the years Nick even rescued Bob from a near drowning. Now years on Nick seems to be drowning in his domestic life under the pressure of parenting and loneliness what can Bob do to bring in some air.
